You’re tired of salads and you’re bored with grilled chicken breast.
When you’ve been on a diet for a while, you may start longing for a little more variety and fun in your plan.
All you really want is to be able to eat like a “normal” person. But in reality, this may not quite be what you had in mind.
Stop and think about it. Most of the “normal” people in our society eat way too much, make poor food choices, and don’t care.
Is that what you’re striving for?
When you talk about your weight-loss efforts, you may need to change your words to match your lifestyle goals. Instead of always striving to be thin, consider using words such as healthy, fit, active, balanced, or strong.
Start creating a new picture of how you will live as a “healthy” person. What does a healthy person do each day?
What type of eating and exercise programs do healthy people follow? And what attitudes do these people have toward food, eating, exercise, and coping with life?
This new wording may change how you think about a lot of things. For instance, over the long run, a fit or strong person will probably sustain a much healthier lifestyle than a thin person.
When you strive to be “healthy,” you can focus on lifetime goals, not just ones related to staying on a diet plan.
Today’s assignment (My answers are in blue)
1. In the center of this page, draw a stick figure or other image of yourself. Beneath the picture, write the words “A Healthy _______” and fill in your first name.
Since I don’t know how to draw in my blog, I’ll just write the words here:
A Healthy Linda!
2. Draw lines outward from the picture, and then label each one with an area of your life such as eating, exercise, relationships or family, work and fun.
I actually drew this picture and my labels included lots of items that I plan to work on such as a stronger exercise program, taking more breaks from my work, etc.
3. Describe how you will work on each of these areas as a healthy person, not as a thin or skinny one.
I’ve been creating a strong image of “living” the picture I drew.
