From 100 MORE Days of Weight Loss, Day 74
Take charge of your own life, including your eating and exercise.
No one is going to make you follow a healthy eating or exercise plan, so it’s up to you to manage these areas of life.
Here are my answers to the three questions at the end of the lesson.
1. Describe a situation where you might eat because it’s expected.
Even though my husband is not a food pusher, I will often eat dessert or second helpings to “please him.” The same is true with friends when we are at a party or gathering.
Even though I’ve worked on this for years, I still overeat when with some of my family members because “it’s what we do.”
2. Consider ways you give up your power to please others. Write about this.
With my husband, tell him ahead of time that I don’t want dessert at the restaurant we are going to. He will always be supportive of that.
The same thing is true with my family and friends. I need to be strong and hold my own power instead of eating to join the crowd or please others.
3. Create a plan for managing this situation better in the future.
I love using the “not just yet” phrase. That has always helped me stay on track at family gatherings or parties.
With my husband, I will make a stronger effort to say, “Let’s not eat dessert (or what ever food I don’t want to eat.” I am so fortunate because he will always respect that and not push. He works hard at staying healthy and managing his weight, so that helps me as well. (I know I am blessed because many people do not have this type of support.)
