Every day, you tell yourself that you’re ready to get started on your diet or exercise plan.
But it doesn’t happen. Days or even weeks go by, and you still haven’t done a thing.
When you feel as if you’ll never get going again, simply tell yourself…
Just do something; then you’re started!
Doing something moves you past the barrier of inertia. Then once you’ve started, your mind recognizes that you’ve been successful and it helps you keep going.
All you need is one positive step—take one walk, eat one healthy meal, then mentally acknowledge that you’re over the hump.
Next, with whatever action step you did, plan to repeat it daily for a minimum of three days.
Once you sustain a positive action for at least three days in a row, you’ll begin to get back your confidence and regain a sense of control.
And with a new attitude, you’ll be more willing to stick with your plan.
Today’s assignment (my answers are in blue)
1. Just do something. Pick out the tiniest action you could take, whether it’s to clean off one corner of your desk, eat a piece of fruit, or take a five-minute walk. Write it down here.
Drink a glass of water first thing each morning
Exercise- go to the recreation center, and get on the treadmill.
2. Repeat this activity for each of the next two days, and then celebrate the success of doing “something.” Record your actions here.
The morning glass of water always helps me label my day as being a strong, healthy one.
I’ve also started going to the rec center a lot more often. I just had to get myself in the door one time, then I was able to get back into a routine.
3. Make a list of your “just do something” ideas and record them below. Over the next week, use one of them each day. Check them off as you complete them.
Yoga – Do 10 min.
Writing- Work on this for one hour
Water- count the number of glasses I drink each day
