In my book, 100 Days of Weight Loss, the lesson for Day 1 says, “Your past does not affect your future.”
When you get discouraged and assume your intentions will fail, remind yourself of this great promise.
Then instead of letting past failure pull you down, use the next step of that lesson to remind you that TODAY is the one that counts most.
When old thoughts creep in, say to yourself, “I used to be that way, but now I’m different.”
Then fill in the phrase with your own struggles. For example, “I used to give up on my program after a few days, but now I’m different.”
Or look at a long-term challenge such as, “I used to always gain my weight back, but now I’m different.
Then add a few words about what you will do instead of the old behaviors. “Instead of giving up on my program after a few days, now I keep myself focused by tracking my progress online.”
