Imagine what your life will be like once you’ve reached your weight-loss goals.
Pretend your current plan was successful and that you’ve lost weight, built an exercise program, and maintained your new habits.
Then in your notebook, or on a separate piece of paper, write “The date now is ________, and here is what I’ve accomplished.”
In the blank line, write today’s month and day, but fill in the year as being exactly one year from now.
Based on what you’d like to see happen over the next year, write an outcome for each of the areas below.
Don’t be afraid to dream big. Assume that you will look and feel the way you desire, and then write your list from that optimistic viewpoint.
I now weigh: (write down the amount you want to weigh one year from now)
My body feels: (use words like strong, healthy, slender, thinner, toned)
I’m exercising by: (list your exercise activities as well as how often you’re doing them)
I’m pleased with: (include your dream outcomes such as better energy, body changes, new attitude)
I’ve learned: (list items such as how to stop emotional eating, cope with stress, or build motivation)
When you’ve completed all of the statements, read your New Year’s resolution out loud. Even though you still have work ahead of you, holding this future vision is critical to your success right now.
Today’s assignment (My answers are in blue)
1. Based on what you’d like to see happen over the next year, write an outcome for each of the areas below.
I now weigh: between 145 to 150 pounds
My body feels…healthy, strong, toned, flexible
I’m exercising by… walking at least 30 minutes most days, playing tennis once or twice a week, doing yoga and strength training twice a week
I’m pleased with…the fact that I’ve finally reached my goal by staying consistent with my weight-loss and exercise plan.
I’ve learned…that to lose weight, I have to walk a very tight road that doesn’t include certain things such a having a glass of wine or afternoon cookies.
2. When you’ve completed all of the statements, read your New Year’s resolution out loud. Write some notes about your reaction to hearing it.
It’s certainly what I’ve known all along, but reading it out loud always makes it more real for me.
3. Make a collage or a drawing of your future. Use this picture to help inspire you with your current actions.
I like holding an image of myself at my goal weight, with a strong toned body.
